The name Aquiares means “land between rivers” in the Huetar indigenous language, and is commonly referred to as “Aquiares coffee and community”. The farm, that was founded in 1890’s, transformed to what it is today, a century later. Alfonso Robelo, who was seeking refuge in Costa Rica from the civil war in Nicaragua, begun building the community on the enchanting slopes of the Turrialba volcano, a lush area of forests, rivers, fauna and bright flora. Today, his son Diego Robelo, manages the farm. Under his lead the farm has become a trailblazer among producers in Costa Rica, by taken a fresh approach through experimenting and embracing new variaties and process methods.
