The Inga community of Aponte is comprised of descendants of the ancient pre-hispanic Incas. After years of seeking refugee in the mountains due to conquest, and then criminality with illegal activities under the influence of guerilla groups, drug trafficers and such, the last decade the mountains finally has become a safe zone for the Inga tribe once again. Now they’ve removed all illegal crops to give way to a new culture: coffee. The Caturra variety has been planted in the Ingaterritory, on smallholder properties in the Resguardo Inga Aponte. The high elevation, combined with the Galerras Volcano constantly shedding nutrient-rich ash, makes for an exceptionally complex coffee.
